A building in Downtown New Kensington that was heavily damaged during a fatal fire in March is finally coming down.

The three-story commercial building in the 500 block of Fourth Avenue was damaged when flames spread to it from a duplex home next door that caught fire March 6.

Angel Gray, 49, who lived in the duplex, died in the fire. State police fire marshals ruled the cause of the fire undetermined but not suspicious.

Crews from Wayne Grguric Xcavate spent much of Thursday preparing for the demolition, which closed a portion of Fourth Avenue to traffic. Work began in earnest Friday, with crews pulling down the brick walls and hauling away debris.
