Hand sanitizer giveaway planned for Allegheny Valley School District residents

A Cheswick councilman whose company specializes in chemicals is planning to give away two free eight-ounce bottles of hand sanitizer per household for Allegheny Valley School District residents.

The distribution will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 22 at the Springdale Volunteer Fire Department hall, 845 Lincoln Ave. Volunteer firefighters will provide the bottles of sanitizer to residents in their cars.

Cheswick Councilman Brian Testa has been giving away 1,000 gallons of hand sanitizer to area first responders, municipal workers and now residents.

Testa owns RightPath Medical, a distributor of diagnostic supplies and chemicals in Pittsburgh. While hand sanitizer remains in short supply at some area stores, Testa talked to some of his vendors and was able to buy it in bulk in 275-gallon “totes” just to give away, he said.

Testa said is supplying area residents to “pay it forward,” he said.

Residents must have a driver’s license or identification to prove that they reside in the school district, and they are asked to wear a mask “to protect them and the volunteers,” said Bruno Moretti of Springdale, emergency management coordinator for the Allegheny Valley Regional Emergency Management Agency.
