Harmar food pantry still helping hundreds of families a week

Although the reliance on food pantries has lessened for many people who have returned to work during the pandemic, a significant need for food from the pantries still exists, according to an Alle-Kiski Valley food distribution coordinator.

“During the pandemic we were assisting about 350 families each week,” said Michelle Bock, who coordinates distribution operations for Feeding the Flock Ministries on Nixon Road in Harmar. “Our numbers are down, but we still are getting between 200 and 250 families a week coming in for food, so the need is still strong.”

The food distributed by the nonprofit ministry comes from the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and other donations.

The organization relies on volunteers to sort and pack food and load it into vehicles.
