Harmar Township supervisors will meet Thursday for a hearing on changing zoning on some parcels along Gulf Lab Road at 6 p.m. Thursday, followed by supervisors regular meeting at the Harmar Township Municipal Building and also via a Zoom conference call.

The supervisors will vote on zoning changes. The most significant action would change the zoning of 13 parcels along Gulf Lab Road from Industrial to Residential (medium-density single-family district).

“Our intention is to correct the zoning where there are residential homes and vacant property,” said Ian Fitzgerald, township manager.

The parcels have a history as residential developments. The problem comes in when a homeowner wants to build an addition or erect a fence.

“They have to go through the burdensome steps because of the zoning,” he said.

For the hearing and meeting, a few township officials will meet in-person at the township building.

However, the majority of the board will join the meeting using the Zoom video conferencing application.

Join the meeting by phone

The public is encouraged to attend the meeting over the phone by following the Zoom dial-in directions available on the township’s website, according to Fitzgerald.

Residents can use their telephone to participate and listen in on the meeting: They should call 646-558-8656 and enter the meeting ID: 642 373 791, then click pound (#). Click pound to continue. Then enter the meeting password 716239 and click pound, according to Fitzgerald.

“In-person attendance to the meeting is strongly discouraged,” he added.

Any member of the public with covid-19 symptoms are prohibited from attending the meeting, Fitzgerald said. The meeting room capacity will be limited to 10 people per government guidelines based on order of arrival, he added.

Public comments can be made during the teleconference meeting or submitted and read into the record by calling the office before the meeting or emailing the comments to admin@harmartownship-pa.gov

The agenda can be found on Harmar Township’s website.
