Kiski Area golf fundraiser returns after 2-year hiatus at Willowbrook Country Club
The largest fundraiser benefitting the Kiski Area School District is back.
The 14th annual Jeff McAfoose Golf Classic returns July 30 after a two-year absence because of the pandemic.
The event kicks off at noon with a lunch at Willowbrook Country Club in Allegheny Township. Tickets are $125 per golfer, and the public is invited to participate.
Awards will be given for longest drive, closet to the pin, hole-in-one and longest putt.
The event was organized by Jeff McAfoose until his death in 2016.
The golf classic was renamed in McAfoose’s honor to pay tribute to his dedication as founder and board member of the Kiski Area Education Foundation, said foundation secretary Christine Pastva.
“He was very generous to the foundation and is greatly missed,” Pastva said.
McAfoose was a 1976 graduate of Kiski Area High School.
All proceeds benefit the Kiski Area Education Foundation, a nonprofit community organization founded in 2006.
The foundation raises money for various scholarships awarded to Kiski Area seniors.
The ticket price includes lunch, greens fee, cart, access to locker room facilities, on-course refreshments and dinner at the awards ceremony at 6 p.m.
Those wishing to skip the golf may purchase a dinner ticket for $40.
Registration is limited to the first 100 golfers and must be received by July 16.
All proceeds from the event benefit student scholarships and teacher mini-grants.
Since 2007, the Kiski Area Education Foundation has awarded more than $260,000 to students and educators in the district.
The last golf outing held in 2019 raised $4,500.
The 2021 Kiski Area Education Foundation Scholarship Awards were granted to the following students: Jordan Fairman and Erin Sciullo ($1,000 each); Rebekah Fowler and Valerie McMullen ($1,750 each) through the Louis V. and Joyce S. Slivan Memorial Scholarship; Rome Oliver ($500) through the Ashley Morabito Scholarship; and Emily Schrag ($1,000) through the Collin R. Feeney Memorial Scholarship.
Allegheny Township Supervisor James Morabito created the Ashley Morabito Scholarship in honor of his late daughter, a Kiski Area High School alum who died in 2018.
“Ashley was such a giving person, I wanted to continue this as her legacy. I will be raising the amount to $1,000 for next year,” Morabito said. “I’m behind this foundation 100% and donate every year.”
