Kiski Area School District seeks Region II board member
Kiski Area School Board is seeking a new member after the recent resignation of director Bertram Gardner.
Gardner resigned Monday, citing a busy schedule as his reason for stepping down, Kiski Area Superintendent Misty Slavic said.
A board vacancy in Region II was announced Monday on the district’s Facebook page and website.
State law does not require the board to advertise the vacancy.
Region II includes Washington, Oklahoma, Avonmore and Bell Township.
Two new directors were appointed for Region III on Dec. 19 because of the resignations of Jessica Johns and Ronald Coleman.
They were replaced by Dawn Mellinger of Hyde Park and Jamie Szitas of Parks Township.
A total of four Kiski Area alumni were vying for the board seats.
Kiski Area is a rural school district with about 3,400 students in Armstrong and Westmoreland counties.
Applicants must be at least 18 and a resident of Kiski Area School District for a minimum of one year.
In addition to Mellinger and Szitas, the board includes Cassandra M. Heinle, Todd A. Sterlitz and Kathleen L. Snyder, all of Region 1; Michelle A. Schmidt and Harlan “Chip” B. Jervis, both of Region II; and Nicole M. Kamer of Region III.
Regular board meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of the month in the board room at the Kiski Area Central Administration Building.
No meetings are held in July.
Interested applicants are asked to send a letter of interest and resume to the Kiski Area Central Office, 200 Poplar St., Vandergrift, PA 15690 or email superintendent@kiskiarea.com by Jan. 13.
Please indicate on the letter that the correspondence is about the school board vacancy.
