The Leechburg Area School District is accepting letters of interest for a vacancy of school director until Monday, Jan. 4 after a recent resignation.

The Leechburg Area School Board is searching for a new school director, and the deadline to apply is noon Monday.

Board president Neill Brady confirmed the board accepted Lisa Gregory’s letter of resignation during the Dec. 9 reorganization meeting.

Attempts to reach Gregory for comment were unsuccessful.

Gregory was elected to the board in 2019 and still had a year left on her term.

“I’m hoping someone responds to be on the board because to date we have no applicants,” Brady said.

School directors volunteer so, as a result, don’t receive compensation from the district.

Brady said skills that assist in serving on a school board can include a background in education, community interest and knowledge of finances.

“The school district is like a small business, and our budget is $15 million — so it’s educational business,” Brady said.

Whoever is appointed to replace Gregory will serve until Dec. 6, 2021.

According to the post on the district website, applicants must be at least 18 years old, a registered voter, have resided in the district for a minimum of one year and be of good moral character.

The deadline to submit a letter of interest is noon, Monday, Jan. 4.

Potential applicants with questions may contact Board Secretary Deana Turner at 724-845-7701, ext. 125.
