More than a dozen food trucks will occupy the Leechburg Volunteer Fire Company grounds for “Food Truck Rally On The River” on Sept. 19.

A new food truck festival is coming to Leechburg.

The “Food Truck Rally on the River,” sponsored by the Leechburg Volunteer Fire Company, is scheduled from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday on the fire company grounds on Canal Street.

The outdoor foodie fundraiser is needed more than ever, said Brian Scott, president of the fire company.

Scott said fundraising has been “dramatically impacted” by covid-19 restrictions this year.

“Total income loss to date exceeds $60,000,” Scott said.

The annual operational budget for the fire company is $135,000.

“Our income for the year is off (by $60,000), but our expenses have remained,” Scott said.

Scott said the fire company also had two unexpected expenses this summer. It had to replace its defunct water rescue boat and also had significant fire truck repairs and maintenance costs totaling about $15,000.

“The boat is inoperable and a replacement has been ordered, and delivery is expected within the next two weeks,” Scott said.

The fire company has two boats for water rescue missions. The new boat will cost about $5,100, Scott said.

Annual fundraisers such as weekly bingo, a fall gun bash and the summer carnival were canceled because of covid-19 restrictions.

“It remains unknown when we can return to our regular fundraisers, so our dedicated crew of volunteers has opted to try new variations on fundraisers that remain compliant with state guidelines,” Scott said.

Kari Kubla and Melissa Tantlinger organized the food truck event.

More than a dozen food trucks will park along the banks of the Kiski River on the fire company’s expansive grounds that allow for social distancing.

“Every dollar we bring in will help the fire department with their fundraising goal,” said Tommy Scanga, owner of Del Vecchio Sausage and Fries, a family-owned specialty sausage truck based out of Vandergrift. “We are known for our homemade sausages and will have three kinds that day.”

Attendees may purchase food tickets in dollar increments and redeem them at the food trucks.

Each participating vendor is donating 20% of their event profits back to the fire company.

Anything Rolls, Egg Rolls will offer custom handmade and fried egg rolls in the following flavors: Mac ’n Cheese, Buffalo Chicken, Taco Supreme, Cheesy Cheeseburger and Philly Cheese Steak.

Organizers have booked a variety of cuisines — from Mediterranean to American and Asian to Italian — hoping to satisfy any food craving.

Food truck entree prices range from $5 to $24.

Look for full smoked racks of ribs offered by Big G Smokin Meats of Gilpin.

“That’s the most expensive meal — a full rack is $24 and a half rack is $12,” Kulba said. “We have a price point for everyone. Cupcakes will be $1.”

Music will be provided by DJ Lash. Other activities include chuck-o-luck, raffles, 50/50 and instant tickets.

Fire and rescue trucks from the following departments will be at the event for a Touch-A-Truck hands-on experience: Leechburg, Gilpin, Parks Township, Allegheny Township, Hyde Park, West Leechburg and Lower Kiski Ambulance.

“It will get kids to come and the children can sit in the trucks, take pictures and ask questions. It’s free and kids love fire trucks and they get excited,” Tantlinger said.

“This event will, hopefully, be not only financially successful, but also a community-oriented event,” Scott said.
