A Plum man was charged with rape after his co-worker at a Pine apartment complex accused him of sexually assaulting her.

Shawde Steve Jenkins, 31, of Murray Court in Plum is charged with felony counts of rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, sexual assault and aggravated indecent assault along with a misdemeanor charge of indecent assault.

He was released from the Allegheny County Jail after a Pittsburgh bail agency posted a $10,000 cash bond on his behalf, according to court records.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jenkins on Sept. 27 before District Judge William Wagner.

Northern Regional Police wrote in Jenkins’ arrest papers that officers responded Aug. 22 to an apartment building in the 6200 block of Christopher Wren Drive and took the woman to the police station to be questioned about the incident.

She told police that she had not previously met Jenkins and that they both worked for a private health care company and provide services to clients who live in the apartments, according to a criminal complaint.

The woman told police that she was caring for a nonverbal woman who has multiple disabilities, and Jenkins was helping a man living in a different apartment who has special needs, the complaint said.

The woman said that she, Jenkins and their two clients ended up in the same apartment after returning from a short trip to a building on Duncan Avenue, where the clients were administered their daily medication, according to the complaint.

She told investigators they were hanging out in the apartment where Jenkins’ client lives when he began making sexually suggestive and vulgar comments about her client, the complaint said.

The woman told police that Jenkins was being “forceful” when he ordered his client to take a shower so she went to his room to make sure he did not need any assistance, police said.

She told police that Jenkins was waiting in the hall outside the man’s room when she left it. She said Jenkins grabbed her by the back of the neck and pulled her back into the bedroom, threw her face down on the bed and began sexually assaulting her, the complaint said.

She said Jenkins stopped assaulting her after about a minute because her client entered the room, the complaint said.

The woman told police that she led her client out of the apartment and then called her fiance to tell him about the assault, according to the complaint.
