Lower Burrell has a new director of public works and parks.

Lower Burrell has a new director of public works and parks after the city’s longtime public works foreman moved on.

Jeff Fleming, the city’s director of public works and parks, will earn $82,000 annually and started July 8. The former foreman, Scott Johnson, resigned to take a job in Colorado.

Fleming’s position is a new one combining responsibilities for public works and parks. He will oversee the city’s streets, sewers and parks, according to Amy Rockwell, city administrator.

Council saw a need to incorporate a supervisory role over the one parks employee and summer help, she said.

Earlier in the year, Mayor Richard Callender said a consultant recommended the new position after evaluating the city’s public works department. The new position is expected to cost no more than the previous two combined.

Fleming’s background includes extensive experience in paving, stormwater, sewer systems and management.

“We are excited to have him on board, and look forward to working with him to consistently improve our operations and service to our residents,” Rockwell said.
