A new supervisor in Gilpin is ready to serve.

Tina Thompson was appointed to the board Oct. 17, replacing former Supervisor Linda Alworth, who resigned in September.

“It’s a close-knit community,” Thompson said of Gilpin and her decision to serve in a public role. “People genuinely care about one another, and you know your neighbors.”

Thompson’s term expires Dec. 31, 2025.

Supervisor Chairman Charles Stull said the township will benefit from Thompson’s experience working in the nonprofit sector.

“Tina’s 20-plus years of experience with nonprofit management, managing large budgets and her grant writing uniquely qualifies her for this position,” Stull said. “She brings a skill set to the team no other supervisors possess that will greatly benefit the township team.”

Thompson, 50, works full time as region executive director for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

“I feel I have an outside perspective that I can bring into (leadership of) the township,” said Thompson.

She has lived in the township for more than a decade.

Thompson is hopeful more residents will attend meetings and stay informed about what’s happening in the township.

“I love Gilpin. We have so much to offer,” Thompson said, “and if people don’t commit to our community, it won’t grow.”

She is supportive of business growth in the rural township.

“I would love to see us bring more business and opportunity to the community, and a larger tax base helps us all,” she said.

Thompson’s nonprofit experience includes managing executive boards and corporate/community involvement.
