Members of A Step Above Dane Academy participate in the New Kensington Christmas parade on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024 in New Kensington.

Hundreds of people lined the streets of New Kensington on Saturday to enjoy the city’s annual Christmas parade.

The parade featured fire trucks, the Valley High School Marching Band, children and adults parading on foot or riding on floats from a slew of Alle-Kiski social organizations and businesses that decked their vehicles for the occasion.

The day was certainly chilly and breezy, but there was plenty of sunshine.

Olde Towne Overhaul, which was been an integral part in bringing life back to New Kensington’s business district, sponsored free horse and carriage rides downtown.

Saturday’s festivities came the day after the city’s Christmas tree was illuminated. It’s the first time the city decorated a live tree. That was followed Friday night with Mayor Tom Guzzo’s free community dinner at the New Kensington No. 1 Fire Hall.
