New Kensington police used a Taser and a police dog to apprehend a man who they say ran from a fight at Sheetz on Saturday.

Noah Benjamin Reed, 20, of Springdale was found to be carrying a 9 mm hand gun with an extended magazine, police said in a criminal complaint.

Police responded about 9:45 p.m. Saturday to a report of two men fighting at Sheetz on Freeport Street, the complaint states. A crowd of 10 to 15 people were around them.

The other man was bleeding from his head and said he had lost consciousness, the complaint states. An employee identified Reed as the aggressor.

Reed immediately ran from an officer who said he would be detained and a foot pursuit began, according to the complaint.

Two other officers, including one with a dog, joined the pursuit. Reed was tasered by one of them and was apprehended by the dog, the complaint states.

The gun was found on Reed’s left ankle, police said. It was registered to a man in Shippenville, Clarion County.

Because of his age, Reed cannot legally own a handgun or have a concealed carry permit, police said.

Police charged Reed with felony firearms offenses and evading arrest, and a misdemeanor charge of simple assault. He was arraigned Sunday and sent to the Westmoreland County jail on $5,000 bail.

Reed’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 24.
