An old stormwater inlet in North Apollo. The borough is trying to land a grant to replace aging inlets on North Ridge Drive and Acheson Avenue.

North Apollo representatives will go door-to-door Wednesday and Thursday to ask residents who live on two streets in the borough to fill out a survey on household information for a grant application for a proposed storm sewer project.

Residents will be given the confidential surveys on North Ridge Drive and the 1900 block of Acheson Avenue. The Armstrong County Department of Planning and Development is helping the borough with the survey for the grant application.

Residents need to return the surveys to Armstrong County by Sept. 10 .

The borough is applying for a federal Community Development Block Grant to pay for a $50,000 project to replace two deteriorating stormwater inlets each on North Ridge Drive and Acheson, said Shane Michael of Senate Engineering, the borough’s engineer.

The borough is trying to fix the stormwater inlets before they fail, Michael said.

If the inlets fail, residents could face drainage problems such as standing water in their yards and in the street, he said.

To qualify for the grant money, the borough needs residents who live in the project area to fill out the survey.

“If we can show low to moderate-income in the area, that will help us qualify for the grant,” he said.

The borough won’t know if it will get the grant until early next year, Michael said. If the borough receives the money, the project could be completed in late 2022.

For questions about the surveys, contact Autumn Vorpe-Seyler, with the Armstrong County Department of Planning and Development at 724-548-3725 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
