The weather forecast called for no precipitation on Nov. 18, and the temperatures would be mild, too.

On that front, everything was good news for the organizers of the 60th annual Oakmont Hometown Christmas and Parade, following a decidedly chilly 59th event last fall.

This year, the parade took its usual route of starting in Verona and making its way up Allegheny River Boulevard to Oakmont, where more than 60 vendors set up shop, including artisans, boutiques, local businesses, and folks offering food and drinks.

The stage at The Oaks Theater was transformed into a North Pole scenario, with Santa Claus in attendance to greet enthusiastic youngsters.

Entertainment included The Quintet vocal group, starring Julie Beck, Jennifer Brenza, Anne Dapra, Mary Lear and Jamie Lydick; the Redeemer Lutheran School Choir; Kelsey’s Dance Company; Joyful Twirlers; Ovations School of Dance; and the Oakmont Lions Club Band.

The Oakmont Chamber of Commerce, which spearheaded the event, continues to celebrate the season with a Christmas Home Tour, scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 3. Advance tickets are $25, and participants are asked not to wear jeans for the tour.

New this year is Christmas market shopping after the tour at Amanda Lee Glassware, 931 Third St. More than 20 specialty vendors will be present.

Tickets can be ordered through the chamber office, 504 Allegheny River Blvd., second floor. For more information, call the chamber office at 412-828-3328. Visit www.oakmont-pa.com.

The tour is sponsored by Lori Hummel and Howard Hanna Real Estate.
