Rocks are dumped from a truck as work continues at the site of what will be a roundabout at Route 981 and Mt. Pleasant and Kecksburg roads in Mt. Pleasant Township on April 1.

PennDOT officials announced the following road work and related closures:

• A portion of Hecla Road between Aster Road and Mt. Pleasant Road will closed beginning May 13, as work crews complete the new Route 981 and Hecla Road approach to the roundabout.

The work is part of the $55.2 million Laurel Valley Transportation Improvement Project, upgrading the Route 981 corridor from Route 819 to Route 30.

• Drainage work along Route 356 in Allegheny Township will begin May 9 between Melwood Road/Hyde Park Road and the La Belle Vue Road roundabout, with single-lane restrictions in place.

The work is part of a $7.7 million project to replace the existing bridge carrying Route 356 over Pine Run, as well as a new roundabout at the intersection of Route 356 and La Belle Vue Road, the realignment of both roads, signal upgrades and stormwater maintenance. The project is scheduled for completion in May 2025.

Lane restrictions during this phase of the project are set to last until early June, according to PennDOT.
