Gov. Tom Wolf recently highlighted important road projects in the region, including four bridge replacements with new culverts for $5.4 million in Apollo and Kiski Township.

These projects will replace four structurally deficient bridges, said Tina Gibbs, a spokeswoman for PennDOT District 10, which covers Armstrong, Butler, Clarion, Indiana, and Jefferson counties.

The new culverts will convey the stormwater runoff from the bridge to unnamed tributaries leading to the Kiski River, she said.

“The project will improve the roadway for travelers, improve stormwater drainage, as well as increase the overall safety of motorists,” Gibbs said.

Apollo Council Vice President Mark Tarle said he is thrilled about new road and drainage projects in and near the borough.

“PennDOT will do something that will ease the stormwater from bottling up closer to the river and causing problems,” Tarle said.

Known as Glorietta Bridge No. 1 in Kiski Township at Gravel Bar Road and State Route 56, work will include replacement of the existing culvert, roadway reconstruction and other activities. The project will begin in July and end in 2022. Details of the work are pending.

Glorietta Bridge No. 2 is in North Apollo on Route 56 next to Lackey’s Dairy Queen. Work will include replacement of the existing culvert, roadway reconstruction and other activities. The project will begin in October and end in 2022.

Work at the Apollo Bridge, the intersection of North 11th Street and Route 56, will include replacement of the existing culvert, roadway reconstruction, building demolition and other activities. The project will start in early 2022 and end later in the year.

Work on Baker Hollow Road bridge in Kiski township will include replacement of the existing culvert, roadway reconstruction and other activities. Work will begin in July. The project should be completed this year.
