An employee at an Oakmont pizza shop was in critical condition Sunday night after being shot during an attempted robbery earlier in the day, according to police.

The shooting happened shortly before 4 p.m. at Fox’s Pizza on Allegheny River Boulevard, Oakmont police Chief Michael Ford said.

The suspect entered the shop and showed a gun, according to Allegheny County police. During the robbery, the suspect and the employee struggled and the victim was shot multiple times, police said. The suspect fled on foot toward California Avenue.

The employee, a 34-year-old man, was shot in the chest and extremities and taken to a hospital, according to county police.

Authorities described the suspect as a Black man about 5-feet-4 to 5-feet-6 with a slim build. He was wearing black pants, a black ski mask and a red Robert Morris University hooded sweatshirt.

Police from Oakmont, Aspinwall, Sharpsburg, Plum, O’Hara, Penn Hills and other departments responded. Ford said county police have taken over the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call county police at 1-833-255-8477.
