Kiski Township police charged a man with six felony counts after he was accused of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13.

Wayne Lawrence Birch Jr., 53, of Hazel Drive faces felony counts of aggravated indecent assault of a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child under the age of 13, aggravated indecent assault without consent, indecent assault of a person under 13, corruption of minors, and endangering the welfare of children. He also was charged with misdemeanor counts of corruption of minors and indecent assault without consent.

Birch was being detained in the Armstrong County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 cash bond, according to court records. He faces a preliminary hearing before District Judge James Andring on Jan. 18.

Police wrote in the criminal complaint charging Birch that, after receiving a state ChildLine notification, the accusations were investigated by a caseworker from Armstrong County Children and Youth Services.

During a forensic interview with the child that was observed by police, they told investigators that Birch inappropriately touched them, the complaint said.

The child was given a body parts diagram to show investigators where they were touched by Birch.

Police said the child accused Birch of touching them inappropriately for several years, the complaint said.
