A New York man accused of attacking his girlfriend with a knife in Arnold was arrested Monday after he called 911 asking for help getting his belongings from her house, police said.
Police said Thomas H. Smith Jr., 29, of Amityville, N.Y., stabbed and cut his girlfriend after they got into an argument at her Riverside Drive residence, according to a criminal complaint.
Smith was released after posting $25,000 bond, according to online court records.
He has no ties to the community other than working for DoorDash, investigators said.
Arnold police Sgt. Joe Nixon said he was called to the home shortly after 12:15 a.m. Monday because a man called 911 asking for assistance getting his belongings from the house.
When Nixon arrived, he found Smith standing by a car in front of the residence.
Nixon said when he asked Smith if he was the person who called 911, Smith first said no. When Nixon told Smith he had been called to the home to help a man retrieve his belongings, Smith told him everything was OK now, the complaint said.
Nixon went to the house and spoke with the woman who lives there. Nixon said the woman had blood on her chest, a puncture wound on her thigh and a cut across her bicep.
The woman told Nixon she had gotten into an argument with her boyfriend, and that her boyfriend was outside. She said Smith went to the kitchen, got a knife and cut her, according to the complaint.
Nixon requested backup to help detain Smith, who had gotten into his car, the complaint said.
Police ordered Smith out of the car and discovered he had been cut on his palm.
Smith told police the woman tried to cut him, and he tried to grab the knife and was cut. He said he disposed of the knife in the park across the street.
Paramedics took Smith to Allegheny Valley Hospital in Harrison, where he received 10 stitches to his palm, police said. The woman refused medical transport and told police that she would have a friend bring her to the hospital, according to the complaint.
Nixon said in the complaint the woman would also be charged with aggravated assault. As of Tuesday, charges did not appear in online court filings.
Smith told police he did not want to press charges against the woman, according to the complaint.
