A portion of Route 356 in Allegheny Township near Stanford Home Center was closed for several hours Tuesday because of what the township deemed a utility pole failure.

Township officials posted a traffic alert to their official Facebook page around 8:50 a.m. Tuesday that showed a utility pole leaning over at a 45-degree angle.

The township advised people to avoid the area because it said more poles were at risk due to stress and tension. One other pole had to be repaired, according to township police.

The state road reopened around 2:30 p.m. PennDOT did not reply to a request for comment.

During the closure, northbound motorists on Route 356 were detoured to Shearsburg Road by the Crossroads Inn, while large trucks were advised to use Melwood Road, according to the township’s post.

Route 56 remained open in both directions.
