Newly elected Rep. Chris Deluzio, D-Aspinwall, honored fallen Brackenridge Police Chief Justin McIntire during a speech on the House floor Wednesday.

The speech came the same day as McIntire’s funeral, which brought thousands of law enforcement officers and other mourners to the Alle-Kiski Valley.

McIntire was shot and killed Jan. 2 during a police foot chase in Brackenridge.

During his short speech, Deluzio said it was his “solemn duty” to honor McIntire’s life and his “22 years of selfless service as a police officer.”

“Day in and day out, like so many others who wear a badge, or a uniform, Chief McIntire put himself in harm’s way to keep others safe, ultimately giving the last full measure of devotion,” said Deluzio. “He represents the very best of western Pennsylvania, the very best of America.”

Deluzio was recently seated in Pennsylvania’s 17th Congressional Districts, which stretches from Beaver County and across many Allegheny County suburbs, including Brackenridge, Tarentum and Harrison.

In his speech, Deluzio also said praise should be given to Tarentum Police Officer Jordan Schrecengost, who was shot in the leg on the same day McIntire was killed. Schrecengost survived the wound and is currently recovering.

Deluzio said today should be a reminder to “never forget” McIntire’s sacrifice.
