Starbucks opens in Buffalo Plaza
A big name in coffee is perking up rural Buffalo Township, Butler County.
Starbucks opened Friday morning along Route 356 in Buffalo Plaza, inside the same building as the former Kings Family Restaurant.
“I was definitely surprised when I heard that something new would be here. My mom texted me and told me it was open,” said University of Pittsburgh graduate student Sarah Lipniskis.
Lipniskis ordered two specialty coffees s to go and was among a steady stream of customers Friday. The coffeehouse features an outdoor seating area, drive-thru and an inside dining area designed with neutral wood-tone colors and a modern feel.
About 25 employees are expected to staff the Starbucks.
Once all of the construction that began about a year ago is complete, three new businesses will be housed under one roof.
One of the new businesses is Toasted Amo, an authentic Italian sandwich shop.
It’s unknown what will occupy the third storefront.
No traffic modifications to Route 356 were needed to accommodate the building’s overhaul.
After dismissal at the nearby high school, several dozen Freeport Area students entered Starbucks as baristas rushed to make their beverages.
Freshman Abby Bentz brought her dad, Jeff, to check out the scene.
She ordered a peppermint mocha frappuccino and said the location is going to save her time.
“I won’t have to drive to the one at the Pittsburgh Mills mall. This is so much closer,” she said.
Jeff Bentz of Buffalo Township said he welcomes the new business. He recalled when the Kings Family Restaurant was open.
“It’s nice to see this in the community and restoring the old Kings building,” he said. “I think this will be cool for after school.”
