Police searching for man who fled after being pulled over along Route 28 in Harmar
Pennsylvania state police still were searching Monday for a man who fled from state troopers after they pulled him over on Route 28 in Harmar on Friday.
Police identified the driver as Anthony Dwayne Smith Jr., 28, from the Pittsburgh area.
At about 5:30 p.m., police say, they spotted Smith’s vehicle, a tan Honda Pilot with Pennsylvania registration LKP5099, not displaying the proper temporary tags. Smith allegedly tossed a bag containing a white substance from the car, according to police. Troopers pulled over the car for those and other violations.
When asked to show his driver’s license, state police say Smith turned on his car and fled, leading police on a high speed chase through Harmar and Springdale. At one point, he turned around and struck the right front fender of a police cruiser and then hit a parked, unattended vehicle on Freeport Road in Harmar, police say.
Police described Smith as 5 feet-11 inches tall, weighing about 240 pounds with a black beard and mustache. He may be in the Springdale, McKeesport or Penn Hills areas. There could be damage to the front fender of the Honda Pilot, state police said.
“He knows we’re looking for him. He said he would turn himself in but hasn’t and I don’t think he’s going to given his rap sheet,” said Trooper Anthony Vaccaro of the State Police Kittanning Barracks Criminal Investigations Unit. “He has not surfaced and we’ve still got an active warrant for him.”
Smith is considered to be dangerous and anyone who has information or knows his whereabouts is asked to contact Trooper Vaccaro at 724-543-2011.
