Cheryl Stover says her Tarentum bar, Barley, is kind of like the fictional Boston bar in the sitcom “Cheers.”

“It’s just great. Everybody is so nice,” she said Wednesday. “I know everybody that walks in there.”

Stover is celebrating the fifth anniversary of her bar at 319 E. 6th Ave. with festivities starting at noon Saturday.

East 6th will be closed from 365 Healthcare to First Commonwealth Bank from noon to 10 p.m.

The event will include games, food trucks and music, Stover said.

Stover said she has celebrated the anniversary every year. This is the first time the borough has allowed the road to be closed for the celebration.

Stover, 51, of Harrison, said she bought the bar from Robert Tallarico of Arnold, who died in November 2017. She had been a bartender for him for a few years at the bar he called Rocco’s.

“It’s a small, cute place,” she said.

Stover had previously owned and operated the Cherry Blossom personal care home in Tarentum for nearly 30 years.

She prefers running a bar.

“That shuts down at night,” she said. “Taking care of people is 24-7.”

A lot of her customers work for ATI, are her high school friends and classmates, and friends of her daughter, Shelby Brown. Brown, 27, of Lawrenceville, operates a juice truck, “Main Squeeze,” which will be there Saturday.

Stover encouraged people to check out not only her place, but other businesses in the area as well, including Dry Bones and Koskey’s Korner.

“It’s been wonderful. It has,” Stover said of her five years in business. “Every year it gets better and better.”
