Armstrong County officials are mum on identifying possible tenants for a new 30,000-square-foot tech development project at RIDC Armstrong Innovation Park in South Buffalo Township.
The news of construction commencing on a “tech flex” building was announced Wednesday in a news release issued by Darin Alviano, the executive director of the Armstrong County Department of Planning and Development.
The term “tech flex” characterizes a site design for a cluster of buildings that offer multifunctional spaces easily adapted to meet the needs of a tenant. They often include a combination of warehouse, retail and office space.
Alviano declined to provide details about potential tenants Thursday, citing confidentiality.
RIDC Armstrong Innovation Park, formerly known as Northpointe Industrial Park, is a 925-acre site with parcels available for commercial, industrial and residential uses.
The park is off Route 28, about 30 minutes north of Pittsburgh, and occupies a Keystone Opportunity Zone with tax incentives up to 10 years.
Owned by the Armstrong County Industrial Development Council, the park’s current tenants include Indiana University of Pennsylvania at Northpointe, BNY Mellon, Penn State Electro-Optics Center and Teledyne FLIR Surveillance.
RIDC is a private nonprofit with a mission of economic development.
The new building is expected to serve as a hub for technology-driven businesses.
Work is expected to be completed in January, and plans include an additional 30,000-square-foot building adjacent to the construction site.
“This construction project signifies a pivotal moment in the economic development of Armstrong County,” said Don Myers, chairman of the board of commissioners. “Our collaboration with RIDC has been crucial in making this vision a reality.”
Timothy White, RIDC senior vice president of business development, said the partnership with Armstrong County facilitates an environment for economic and job growth.
“We’re confident that RIDC Armstrong Innovation Park is going to be a vital and successful part of economic growth in this region,” White said.
