Vandergrift Borough’s website is up and running again

Vandergrift has solved its ongoing website issue.
The borough had been without a functioning website since February. Visitors to the site encountered an oversized message stating it was no longer updated or maintained.
Jim Rice of ASDM Networking was hired by the borough to get the website back up and running, and he launched the redesigned website Monday.
Some of the links on the website include a calendar of upcoming events, code enforcement information, local weather, parks and recreation, borough departments, employment opportunities, landlord/rental unit information, online resources, history and council agenda and meeting minutes.

Rice said he collaborated with Vandergrift Council President Kathy Chvala and Borough Secretary Steve DelleDonne to make changes.
Rice said the website didn’t offer updated council meeting minutes; he’s adding those links and expects the information to be posted this weekend.
“It’s a shame that this happened because the previous designer was doing most of this gratis,” Rice said. “These designs would probably cost about $5,000 to $10,000.”
Chvala’s daughter, Jackie Chvala Vigna, previously maintained the site but resigned earlier this year.
Rice said Vigna had started on a refresh page and he continued that work as part of his upgrade.
Rice is being paid $350 by the borough for his IT services.
“I will continue to maintain the site,” said Rice, whose business is in New Kensington.
Rice, 72, has worked for the borough since the 1980s maintaining some of its computer systems.
Vandergrift Mayor Barbara Turiak said she’s pleased to see the website working again.
“I am happy it’s back up because we need to have our citizens aware of more things that are happening in the borough,” Turiak said.
Links planned for the website will include a “new to town” option with local community information.
Rice said the website is big, with more than 70 pages. He has moved the tabs around to give it a fresher look.
Vandergrift Councilwoman Karen McClarnon said she was unaware the website was operational again when reached for comment Friday.
“I’m very happy that the citizens of the borough will have information coming from our council and our borough offices. It’s about time,” McClarnon said.
