Vandergrift Public Library is at 128 Washington Ave. in downtown Vandergrift.

Anyone who is looking to land a new job can get some pointers during a free workshop at the Vandergrift Public Library.

Representatives from PA CareerLink Alle-Kiski will host the workshop Jan. 11 to teach participants interviewing and job-searching skills, along with resume-building tips.

PA CareerLink, a nonprofit based in New Kensington, offers a variety of workforce development services to employers and job seekers.

The workshop is offered via a Healthy Communities Grant through the Community Foundation of Westmoreland County and The Pittsburgh Foundation.

Vandergrift Public Library Director Sarah Buzzard said the event is important to Vandergrift because it brings free resources into the community.

“Some residents that need these services may continue to go without because they don’t have a way to travel to the CareerLink office,” Buzzard said. “This isn’t just for our town, but everywhere. Libraries are meant to be the bridge that people need to get from where they are to where they need to go when they’re in need of things like computers and internet access.

“Hosting events like these helps bridge those connections and resources individuals need.”

Participants are asked to bring their Social Security number and state I.D. or driver’s license. No appointment is needed, and anyone can stop in between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Free GED testing also will be available, including prep work for the test.

Vandergrift Councilwoman Daisha Clayton said a program for adults is always of value.

“Oftentimes, we see programs for our youth, but rarely do we see programs to benefit the advancement of adults in the area,” Clayton said. “What an awesome way to help adults in our community progress in the workforce in order to better provide for their families.

“Hats off to our local library for providing this opportunity.”
