Vandergrift’s Meals On Wheels in dire need of volunteers

Vandergrift Meals On Wheels food service director Buster Burnham chops onions Friday in the basement kitchen at Saints Constantine and Helen Orthodox Church in Vandergrift. Burnham said volunteers are in great demand as the organization is down to 60 volunteers, from more than 150.

Vandergrift Area Meals On Wheels volunteers Harriet Delia and Fran Botti ready meals for delivery Friday in the basement kitchen/fellowship hall at Saints Constantine and Helen Orthodox Church in Vandergrift. The friends, both of Washington Township, volunteer several times a week from about 7:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Dennis Duppstadt, 70, volunteers as a driver every Friday for Vandergrift Area Meals On Wheels. Duppstadt lives in South Leechburg and has volunteered since 2015. He said many of the his customers live alone and he enjoys engaging with them.

Nancy McGraw, 74, of Oklahoma Borough has volunteered with Vandergrift Area Meals On Wheels for more than 25 years.

Meals wrapped and ready for delivery Friday at Meals On Wheels in Vandergrfit. The outreach is seeking volunteers as numbers have dwindled the last few years. To volunteer call 724-567-7893.
