A 28-year-old woman was killed Saturday morning in a two-vehicle accident in Washington Township.

Washington Township police identified the fatality victim as Haley D. Montgomery, of Brackenridge.

Montgomery was driving northbound on Route 66 and attempted to turn left onto Greensburg Road (Route 366) at about 7:40 a.m. Saturday. She turned into the path of a 2012 Nissan Xterra driven by Hunter Tackett, 20, of Lower Burrell, who was southbound on Route 66, according to police Sgt. Jason Montgomery.

The apparent cause of the accident was failure to yield, he said.

Montgomery was driving a 2011 Honda Civic and was not wearing a seat belt, he said. She was pronounced dead at the scene from head and neck injuries, said Westmoreland County Coroner Kenneth Bacha.

Tackett was transported to Forbes Hospital in Monroeville with non-life threatening injuries, Montgomery said.

Assisting Washington Township police and fire were first responders from Sardis, Delmont and White Valley. The crash closed Route 66 for a time.
