A Cheswick woman is accused of kicking and punching two Springdale Borough police officers during an arrest.
The incident took place shortly after midnight Tuesday in the 900 block of Chester Street when Candace Rae Winstead assaulted the two officers who were responding to a call regarding unknown trouble, according to a criminal complaint.
When one of the responding officers, Sgt. Derek Dayoub, told Winstead there was a warrant for her to be taken to UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital, she reacted violently, kicking and punching Dayoub and pushing officer Chris Fabec as they tried to handcuff her, police said.
Winstead continued to fight and struggle on her porch with the officers who yelled several times “stop resisting” with no effect, according to the complaint. Winstead kept trying to push herself over the side of the porch, which had a steep drop, while the officers continued to pull her back and wrestle her arms so that she could be cuffed, police said.
It ultimately took four police officers to get her in a police vehicle to be taken to Western Psych, according to the complaint. Winstead was accepted at the hospital on the warrant, which officers had tried to serve the previous afternoon.
A search of Winstead’s purse revealed a long serrated steak knife and a razor blade in the bottom of the purse, police said.
Winstead is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of recklessly endangering another person, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. The complaint was filed with Magisterial District Judge David J. Sosovicka.
