Vandergrift’s winery is set to reopen after having erratic hours for more than five months.

Wooden Door Winery at 101 Custer Ave. will welcome wine enthusiasts back starting Oct. 28.

Co-owner Jeff Pollick said operating hours at the normally year-round winery were disrupted because of personal reasons.

“It’s been a crazy six months,” Pollick said. “We’re just really excited because we have new drink and menu items, and we will be booking more live entertainment.”

Wooden Door makes its wine from Pennsylvania grapes, offering more than 30 varieties.

Pollick said customers have been inquiring about when the winery will reopen.

“The interest is definitely out there. We had a lot of regular customers in there, and it will be very nice to see those familiar faces again,” Pollick said.

Pollick said the pandemic greatly impacted private event bookings last year.

“We had seven events last year, and this season we had more than 50 private events,” said Pollick, adding the majority of bookings are for bridal showers and weddings.

The flagship Wooden Door Winery in Allegheny Township operates in warm-weather months. It closed Oct. 15 and will resume regular hours in mid-April of next year. The winery will open specially for Small Business Saturday on Nov. 27.

Housed in a historic 1896 church, the Vandergrift location offers a wine bar, indoor/outdoor seating, live music, themed dinners and beer alongside its handcrafted wines.

Krissy and Jeff Pollick purchased the former First Lutheran Church of Vandergrift in 2015, completed extensive renovations and opened in 2017.

The church was Krissy’s childhood place of worship.

Wooden Door Winery in Vandergrift hours beginning Oct. 28 are 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursdays; 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays; and 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays.
