Two Westmoreland County residents are accused of breaking into coin laundry machines in four counties and stealing $2,210, according to court papers.

Lauren M. Roth, 33, of Mt. Pleasant Borough, and Bryan E. Deiterich, 35, of Mt. Pleasant Township, caused about $10,000 worth of damages at four locations, state police said. They were arraigned Tuesday on charges of trespass, theft, criminal mischief and corrupt organizations.

A manager at a Sewickley Township campground reported to troopers in March that a man was seen on surveillance video tampering with two coin-operated washing machines. The man used a power drill to access the coin drawer and removed the cash, according to court papers. A woman accompanied him.

The man was wearing a hat that bore the name of a Virginia-based commercial laundry company, police said. A local service manager for the company told investigators three similar incidents happened at apartment buildings in Saltsburg, Johnstown and Harrison that month.

The service manager told authorities he had been relocated to replace Deiterich, a former technician. Troopers said they used Deiterich’s Facebook page to identify Roth as the woman who was with him at the Sewickley Township campground.

During an interview with authorities both suspects admitted to taking the money, police said.

Neither suspect had an attorney listed in online court records. They could not be reached. Deiterich and Roth are free on $25,000 unsecured bail each. Preliminary hearings are set for Dec. 9.
