Six people were taken to area hospitals after a pickup truck crashed Sunday night in Penn Township.

The crash was reported shortly before 9 p.m. on a stretch of Baughman Road between Bushy Run and Dutch Hollow roads, according to Claridge fire Chief Ron Supancic Jr.

Ambulances transported two adults to Forbes Hospital in Monroeville and three children to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, Supancic said. A fourth child was flown to the Pittsburgh hospital by helicopter, he said.

The extended-cab pickup crashed into a tree near a bend in the road and had severe damage to its front passenger side, Supancic said. He said firefighters removed the passenger door to help free one of the occupants.

They set up a landing zone for the helicopter on the Claridge Legion grounds.
