Apple Hill Playhouse rummage sales to offer decades of costumes, props, antiques

Decades’ worth of memories will be up for sale beginning Saturday at Apple Hill Playhouse in Delmont.
Props, costumes, antiques, furniture, appliances, tools, building materials and other items collected over the years will be available during rummage sales from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and Oct. 24-25.
Owner Pat Beyer announced the closure of the long-running summer theater in July, citing her age — 79 — and health issues, along with ongoing uncertainties about how theaters will operate as pandemic restrictions continue.
“We’re just trying to sell all the things we’ve accumulated through the years,” said Clark Stewart, treasurer of Orchard Performing Arts Company, the playhouse’s resident theater group.
Items of particular interest include antique steamer trunks, an antique kitchen range and a nonfunctioning television-record player console, said OPAC President Mike Crosby.
Some of the abundant furniture is in good condition and some is suitable for restoration, Crosby added.
“We’ll be selling anything that’s not part of the building. Obviously, we can’t sell the fixtures, like the toilets or the electrical fixtures,” Stewart said. “Some of the actors have said they’d like to find some things from the productions they were in.”

Buyers will be able to name their own prices, and no reasonable offer will be refused, according to the Apple Hill Playhouse Rummage Sale page on Facebook.
Sales will be cash only, and buyers must move and haul their purchases away.
The property at 275 Manor Road is listed for sale at $349,000 with Howard Hanna Real Estate Services.
The listing describes the property as “A Pre-Civil War barn which has been extensively renovated and has functioned as a summer theatrical venue since at least the 1950s on a 2.798 acre level lot. … The main structure is 6,751 sq. ft. Includes a basement box office, lounge, bathrooms, shop and storage areas. An upper-level 120 seat+ auditorium with a balcony seating area and a stage with wings and above limited upper-fly space, dressing rooms and costume shop.”
The playhouse has a large covered patio and a gas HVAC system. The grounds also include outbuildings.
Orchard Performing Arts Company is searching for a new permanent home, Stewart said.
Meanwhile, the company will present “A Taffeta Christmas,” a 1950s musical revue, from Nov. 19-22 at The Lamplighter Restaurant in Delmont.
