A Derry Township man is accused of attacking his stepfather with a butcher knife Saturday inside a house in the village of Torrance.

State police said Thomas McQuaide, 53, defended himself with a baseball bat during the 11 a.m. attack, striking David Geisler, 21, in the head.

Trooper Ty Smith said Geisler was treated for a head wound at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. McQuaide suffered abrasions from being knocked to the ground during the altercation, police said.

Geisler and McQuaide are charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment. They were arraigned before night court District Judge Jason Buczak, who ordered Geisler held in the Westmoreland County Prison on $20,000 bail. McQuaide was jailed after failing to post $10,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled May 22 before District Judge Mark Bilik.
