A 42-year-old South Huntingdon man is in the Westmoreland County Prison after police say he slashed his younger brother’s leg with a knife during an argument over drinking beer.
Francis John Hermanson Jr. is charged by police with aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment and harassment in connection with the 1:39 p.m. incident Wednesday involving his brother, Robert J. Hermanson, 35, inside an apartment along Foster Street in Southwest Greensburg.
When borough police Chief C.J. Kent arrived, he said he found the younger Hermanson in the kitchen, sitting in a pool of blood with a “very large” laceration on the lower portion of his left thigh.
“(Robert) said he was feeling faint and felt like he was going out. I requested a bath towel to apply direct pressure (until) Mutual Aid arrived on the scene…,” Kent wrote.
Robert Hermanson was treated by paramedics and taken to Excela Health Westmoreland hospital in Greensburg, according to Kent.
Kent said Francis and Robert began a verbal argument over beer.
“The argument escalated to a physical altercation when Robert attempted to physically throw Francis out of the residence by pushing him out the door. Francis then retaliated by grabbing a knife and slashing Robert across his left thigh, causing a deep laceration,” Kent wrote.
Acting District Judge Charles Moore ordered Francis Hermanson held in the county prison after he failed to post $50,000 bond pending an Oct. 29 preliminary hearing before Hempfield District Judge Tony Bompiani.
