A Greensburg woman arrested for driving under the influence is accused of biting and kicking a state trooper and assaulting a hospital nurse.
Chanei V. Cunningham, 31, is charged with driving under the influence, careless driving and driving on the wrong side of the road following the one-vehicle crash on New Alexandria Road in Hempfield at 5:15 p.m. Oct. 31. State police Corporal Wesley Nelson also charged her with two counts of aggravated assault and simple assault, and single counts of harassment, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest for the incidents later at the Excela Health Westmoreland hospital, according to court documents
Nelson reported, when the arresting officer Trooper Zachary Chamblee spoke to Cunningham at the hospital after the crash near the Union Cemetery Road intersection, she became combative. Nelson alleges that witnesses said Cunningham kicked Chamblee twice and bit him in his right hand.
When a nurse attempted to assist Chamblee, who suffered bruises to his face, Cunningham allegedly assaulted the woman and spit in her face.
Police said Cunningham refused a blood test.
Cunningham could not be reached for comment. An attorney was not listed in court documents.
She was arraigned before Export District Judge Charles R. Conway and released on $75,000 unsecured bond pending a preliminary hearing Jan. 6 on the assault charges. A hearing on the DUI complaint is scheduled Tuesday before Hempfield District Judge Tony Bompiani.
