A Mt. Pleasant area man wanted for skipping several court hearings following recent drug arrests was discovered by Westmoreland County sheriff deputies Tuesday hiding under a bed in his mother’s house with several baggies and a jar of crystal methamphetamine nearby, according to court documents.
Members of the sheriff’s department warrant team discovered David R. Bailey hiding on the second floor of an East Main Street house in Mt. Pleasant, Sgt. Irvin Shipley said.
He said deputies obtained information from the county domestic relations office that Bailey, who had multiple bench warrants for failing to appear in connection with 2016 and 2017 arrests by state police for manufacturing and possession of controlled substances, was living with his mother.
According to deputies, Bailey contacted the domestic relations office last week to update his contact information.
When officers arrived, Naomi Bailey permitted the officers in her home to search and directed them to a second-floor bedroom that she said was her son’s, Shipley said.
“Deputy Rob Orbin and I made our way to the second floor of the residence and began looking through David’s bedroom. I quickly noticed beside the bed were two long firearms, baggies of suspected methamphetamine, a jar containing a larger amount of suspected methamphetamine, prescription medication, marijuana, multiple smoking pipes and other drug paraphernalia,” Shipley said.
Bailey was discovered beneath a bed in another bedroom on the second floor and surrendered, Shipley said.
In addition to the methamphetamine, deputies seized two firearms, including a modified .22-caliber rifle and a 12-gauge shotgun, which were both loaded, ammunition, knives, prescription medication, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Deputies noted it is illegal for David Bailey to own weapons because of a prior felony drug convictions in 2013. Online court dockets indicate Bailey was sentenced to serve up to 23 months in the 2013 case.
Bailey was being held in the county jail without bond on the bench warrants pending arraignment on multiple drug and firearm complaints being prepared by sheriff’s deputies, Shipley said.
