Cops: Ohio man who led troopers on chase was under the influence

State police allege an Ohio man was under the influence of marijuana and alcohol Wednesday when he refused to pull over for a traffic stop, leading troopers on a chase for several miles in East Huntingdon Township.
Troopers allege in court documents that the driver, Thomas P. Wren, 62, of Kenton, Ohio, had nunchucks and a machete in his vehicle, which police chased along routes 31, 981 and 982. Troopers confiscated those items out of Wren’s 2019 GMC Sierra when he stopped at 3:24 p.m. in the parking lot of the Dollar General store on Pittsburgh Street in Scottdale, according to Trooper Joshua Janosko.
In addition to state police, the pursuit also involved Scottdale police.
Police also seized a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia from inside the truck, according to the complaint filed before District Judge Charles Moore.
Wren failed a field sobriety test and was taken to Excela Health Frick Hospital in Mt. Pleasant for a blood test, according to court documents.
Kenton, Ohio, is about 57 miles northwest of Columbus.
Wren was arraigned on charges of failing to yield to emergency vehicles, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of prohibited offensive weapons, careless driving and driving on the wrong side of the road. He was ordered held in the county jail after failing to post $35,000 bail.
