Cops: Smithton woman accused of breaking into house and taking $20 from woman’s purse

State police Tuesday arrested a Smithton woman on multiple charges including burglary, criminal trespass, resisting arrest and theft after allegedly breaking into a home and stealing $20 out of an 81-year-old woman’s purse.
Theresa L. Harris, 56, was arrested by state police in Belle Vernon on multiple criminal complaints and arraigned before East Huntingdon District Judge Charles Moore. Harris was ordered held in the county prison after she failed to post $5,000 bail.
Police allege Harris forcibly entered the victim’s home on Kott Road in South Huntingdon Township just before 1 a.m. Monday and rummaged through some of the victim’s items.. The victim told police once Harris found currency in a change purse she ran out the front door with approximately $20.
Trooper Marc Ziegler said Harris knows the victim.
Later in the day, police arrested Harris at her home less than two miles away, along Fitz Henry Road. A preliminary hearing is scheduled July 31 before Moore.
