Cops: Unity man accused of firing gun, assaulting man in neighborhood speeding dispute

A Unity Township man was so angry over a man he accused of speeding on a residential street that he allegedly fired a .38 caliber handgun at the victim’s passing car Monday and later injured him during a physical confrontation, state police said.
Terry E. Simms Jr., 32, was arrested by state police on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, making terroristic threats, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct and harassment, after the 11:50 p.m. incident on Karns Avenue in the village of Baggaley.
Trooper Zachary Wolford reported in court documents that he was dispatched to the area for a report of a gunshot fired on the 1200 block of Karns Road, and spoke with the 31-year-old victim in a nearby alley who said he suffered an injured shoulder and neck during a subsequent scuffle with Simms.
The victim told police that he went to confront Simms immediately after the shooting, meeting him in an alley and Simms pointed the handgun at him again telling him, “I’ll (expletive) kill you. I’ll shoot you with this gun,” as he approached, court documents said.
The victim said the two men continued arguing, Simms placed him in a headlock and threw him to the ground, injuring the victim’s shoulder and neck, Wolford wrote.
Simms surrendered to police without incident and they also confiscated his .38 caliber handgun, Wolford reported. Police said Simms had a valid permit to carry the firearm.
Simms was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge Michael Mahady and ordered held in the Westmoreland County Prison after failing to post $5,000 bail.
