Traffic will be restricted to a single lane in each direction Wednesday on a section of Interstate 70 in South Huntingdon.

PennDOT officials said the left lane will be restricted from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for both eastbound and westbound traffic between the Yukon (Exit 53) and Madison (Exit 54) interchanges.

That will allow crews to complete concrete work on the roadway as part of a roughly $93 million project.

The project involves revamping and updating both interchanges, to provide longer acceleration and deceleration lanes for ramps. PennDOT also is reconstructing 3.7 miles of I-70, with a wider median and outside shoulders, an adding an eastbound auxiliary lane between the interchanges.

PennDOT recently scheduled daytime lane restrictions in the same vicinity to allow workers to replace a damaged median barrier and grout temporary drainage that is no longer in use.
