Westmoreland County residents can help support aid efforts in the Ukraine by having a beer or two Thursday at Yellow Bridge Brewing in Delmont.
The Notre Dame Club of Greensburg/Uniontown will host a “Paint the Yellow Bridge Blue & Gold” fundraiser from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the brewery, 2266 Route 66 in Delmont.
“We have a number of chapters in the area, including Pittsburgh and West Virginia,” said Dennis Figg, president of the Greensburg/Uniontown chapter. “But size doesn’t matter. It’s more about what we can do for the community.”
The Greensburg/Uniontown chapter has joined forces with several community organizations in recent years.
“We’ve partnered with Knead Community Café in New Kensington, we partnered with Feed the Spirit in Greensburg for a virtual tasting fundraiser,” Figg said. “We’ve also worked with the Salvation Army in Greensburg to do a Christmas gift drive for children.”
Once the fundraiser concludes, Figg and chapter leadership will work with the Rev. Oleh Seremchuk from St. John’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Scottdale, who has family ties to Ukraine, to direct the funds to aid charities.
“My wife’s family is over there,” said Seremchuk. “They are doing OK, from what I can tell.”
Figg said he hopes the chapter can make a difference however small.
“What’s going on in Ukraine is far from over, and we don’t want those folks to be forgotten,” he said. “They need our help, and they need our prayers.”
