Delmont fiber arts show expands into larger venue
Those interested in creating or learning about fiber arts or purchasing crafted fiber items will find an expanded selection of vendors at the semiannual Raggz Fiber Affair show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in Delmont.
Organizer Toni Ritchey-Ridella of Salem Township said she’s seen interest in fiber arts, including weaving and knitting, increase during the pandemic. Her show featuring area fiber producers and artists started in 2015. It has grown from about 20 to 27 vendors, prompting a move from the local fire hall to The Lamplighter Restaurant on Route 22.
Admission is free.
“I think fiber arts have picked up,” said Ritchey-Ridella, a weaver and knitter who raises sheep and other animals on her farm. “Also, a lot of younger people are getting into this now.
“There’s a big fiber show in Maryland that’s been going on for about 50 years. But there wasn’t really one in our area, so I started this one.”
Those attending the Delmont show can expect to find wool fiber and raw fleeces for spinning and felting and some spinning supplies, as well as hand-dyed yarn like Ritchey-Ridella offers at her Raggz Fiber Art shop in the village of Forbes Road. Some vendors also will offer apparel, decorative items, soap, honey and sweet treats.
Spinning demonstrations are expected along with a silent auction and a “give-and-take” table.
A fundraiser will be held to benefit the nonprofit, faith-centered Lost and Found Pharmacy in Penn Hills, which regularly provides volunteers to help wind yarn at the show.
