Delmont Pilgrimage organizers will host ‘Christmas in July’ fundraiser

Last year, Delmont Pilgrimage organizers expanded their annual event to include one specifically for children, and the only problem they encountered was a self-imposed limit on ticket sales.
That will change in 2024, when the Pilgrimage Jr. will expand to offer 400 tickets for families to experience a kid-centered re-telling of the Nativity story.
Where the adult version features eight live-action vignettes staged at Delmont’s Shields Farm as part of a quiet, solemn procession, the Pilgrimage Jr. is hands-on, giving children the opportunity to interact with some of the animals in the Nativity scenes and with characters like Mary and Joseph.
“We’re adding some costumes and other things this year that the original ticket price doesn’t cover, so we’re also going to be hosting a ‘Christmas in July’ fundraiser,” Pilgrimage organizer Denni Grassel said.
The July 27 event, set for 5-7 p.m. at Red Barn Winery on Manor Road, will be an evening of holiday-themed fun with live music, a light buffet, live music by Party of Two, a 50/50 raffle, silent auction and more.
Victory Stables will also bring a camel to the fundraiser for photo opportunities.
Pilgrimage organizers are updating some of the other aspects of the event, set for Dec. 7-8. Pilgrimage Jr. will take place the afternoon of Dec.8.
“We re-did Mary’s house last year, and we’re doing Joseph’s house year as well as repainting another building,” Grassel said.
Organizers are seeking volunteers ages 16 and older, to help host the adult and children’s events and perform tasks including the preparation of luminaries, costume fittings and more. Anyone interested can go to DelmontPilgrimage.com/volunteer to submit information.
Tickets for the July 27 fundraiser are $20, available at Tickets.triblive.com.
