A New Stanton man made the mistake of leaving his hotel room last week just as a county sheriff’s deputy with a long memory happened to drive past.
The deputy, Robby Orbin, said in court documents filed Monday that he quickly recognized Edward C. Ferrari, 50, as the former Unity man walked from his room at the Budget Inn around 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Orbin said he recognized Ferrari based on a seven-year-old arrest warrant.
A short time later, Orbin stopped Ferrari as he drove a dump truck. Orbin reported Ferrari was wanted on a 2012 complaint for failing to pay several hundred dollars he owed then in child support, plus another $4,000 he owes in fines and costs dating back to 2006 following several misdemeanor convictions.
When Ferrari was searched, Orbin alleges deputies discovered he had more than 30 suspected stamp bags of heroin, a plastic bag of crystal methamphetamine, a hypodermic needle and a spoon believed used to smoke contraband in his possession.
“Ferrari was also discovered to be illegally operating a dump truck requiring a driver with a commercial driver’s license certification. Ferrari’s driving privileges are currently suspended,” Orbin said in court documents filed before East Huntingdon District Judge Charles Moore.
Ferrari was jailed on the outstanding warrants. He was arraigned Monday on two counts of illegal possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was remanded to the county jail on $5,000 bail on the most recent charges.
