Derry man accused of breaking trucker's cell phone in Toll Route 66 incident
A Derry Borough man is accused of stopping his SUV in the left lane of Toll Route 66 and arguing with a truck driver, breaking the trucker’s cell phone, according to court papers.
State troopers said the encounter with Marshall C. Dolfi, 30, was captured on cameras in the tractor-trailer. Dolfi was arrested Thursday on charges of robbery, terroristic threats and related offenses.
Surveillance video showed a white Dodge Durango being driven by Dolfi cross over two lanes of the southbound highway in Hempfield at 3 p.m. Saturday and come to a stop in front of the tractor-trailer on the road near mile marker 8.5, police reported in court papers.
Dolfi is seen in the video getting out of the SUV and opening the truck door. He and the driver argued and Dolfi grabbed the trucker’s cell phone, slammed it to the ground twice and tossed it over an embankment. Police said the driver was using his phone to video record the encounter.
Dolfi left the scene. When troopers caught up with him a few days later, Dolfi told them he was cut off by a tractor-trailer before the incident. He denied breaking the driver’s phone, according to court papers.
“Dolfi related he agrees that he did not handle this incident in the best way,” police wrote in the complaint.
Troopers said Dolfi’s drivers license expired Feb. 26. He was being held at the Westmoreland County Prison on $25,000 bail.
A March 21 preliminary hearing is set. His attorney could not immediately be reached.
Dolfi served 18 months on probation in connection with simple assault charges stemming from a 2018 incident in Allegheny County, according to court records. He was ordered to attend anger management classes.
