A woman was treated at an area hospital Wednesday after state police said she was assaulted and choked by a Derry Township man at his home during an argument.

Troopers arrested James W. Lewis, 41, who lives in the 9500 block of Route 22, following the incident.

Lewis was arraigned before District Judge Mark Bilik on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment and strangulation. He was released on $10,000 unsecured bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled Dec. 18.

Trooper Stephen Rowe of the Kiski station said he was dispatched to the home near Blairsville for a report of an assault. Rowe reported that the woman was sitting on the floor when he arrived and had noticeable bruises about her face and “red marks around her throat and neck.”

She told troopers that Lewis assaulted her and then fled the scene.

Rowe said the woman was taken by ambulance to an undisclosed hospital.
