Derry Twp. man wants out of jail to await trial for drug delivery resulting in death

The lawyer for a Derry Township man charged with selling the drugs used in the fatal overdose of a Greensburg man last year said he should released from jail as he awaits trial.

Defense attorney Patricia Elliott-Rentler in court documents filed Thursday said it has taken too long to bring the case against Glenn Levtzow to trial. Levtzow, 37, has been in custody without bond since his arrest last May when he was charged with drug delivery resulting in death and another offenses.

Police said Levtzow, 37, sold fentanyl-laced heroin used in the Nov. 18, 2017, fatal overdose of Ryan Powell, 34, in his East Pittsburgh Street apartment. Powell died two days later at Excela Health Westmoreland hospital.

Elliott-Rentler said Levtzow’s case is not scheduled for trial.

“It is a denial of defendant’s constitutional rights to deny him a bond on this bailable offense,” Elliott-Rentler said.

Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court Judge Christopher Feliciani said he will schedule a hearing on the defense’s bond request.
